My Journey

My journey to Japan began in the summer of 1994 when tasked to find a new development center for Microsoft in the suburbs of Tokyo. I had the incredible privilege of experiencing rapid growth over the next ten years working at this office.

  • Migrated over 150 MPayMe/ZNAP customers to PowaTag technology
  • Rapidly increased revenue from $6M to over $19M in 12 months
  • By February 2016, PowaTag was processing over 1 Billion YEN in transactions every month
  • Major projects includes Japan Post Bank to develop a co-branded app to process over 190M payment transactions and DSK to process over 65M utility payments per month
  • Powa Technologies was acquired by Mozido in March 2016 after failing to raise additional funding

  • jPortal was an incubator and startup development company to help startups enter the Japanese markets.


Omgeo
Sales Director and Representative Director, May 2007 to June 2010

  • Rapidly grew revenue from $3.5M in 2007 to over $60M in 2010
  • Transformed the company from a partner driven model to a hybrid partner/direct sales model
  • Hired, trained and coached high performing teams that included sales, marketing, integration consultants, technical support and account managers
  • Developed a strategic partnership with Japan Securities Depository Center (JASDEC) to help us establish strong relationships with domestic financial institutions. This partnership gave us the needed credibility to signup new customers in the domestic banking industry
  • Signed 11 domestic banks in the first 18 months which contributed to a rapid revenue growth of $27M. This significant achievement resulted in new partnerships that drove an additional $30M in new revenue for the next 24 months
  • Expanded into South Korea and formed a strategic partnership with Korea Securities Depository (KSD). This partnership provided access to 64 domestic and international financial institutions that are trading on the KSD platform. This partnership contributed to over $17M in new revenue, 15 months after signing the partner agreement
  • Awarded the President’s Club Award three years in a row from 2008 to 2010


Scansoft (Nuance Communications)
Sales/Marketing Director and Representative Director, May 2004 to May 2006

  • Rapidly grew revenue from $1.5M in 2004 to over $35M in 2006
  • Transformed the business from an agency model to a hybrid partner/direct sales model
  • Hired, trained and coached high performing teams that included sales, marketing, technical support and engineers
  • Developed strategic partners that included SoftBank, Marubeni and SourceNext for our retail products; Sony, NEC, Sharp, Panasonic, Epson, Casio, Olympus, Avaya and Genesis for our OEM embedded and enterprise solutions; and Digital River for our e-commerce business
  • Signed 8 major global license agreements with Sony, NEC, Sharp, Panasonic, Epson, Casio and Olympus to bundle our embedded solutions with their hardware offerings. Negotiated 12 months in advance royalty payments for favorable global pricing which contributed $11M in new and recurring revenue in the first year
